The basic premise of all the books is that the French have a good relationship with food while Americans typically are always fighting with food. In France they sit down to there meals. Lunch can take an hour. Dinner two. They eat in courses, making sure everyone is finished with one before starting another. The French eat real food like meat, yogurt, butter, vegetables, not pre-packaged, chemically laden faux foods. They only have one snack in the afternoon instead of constant nibbling. They enjoy and savor their food. They enjoy it then they don't crave more. I love this way of eating.

You can read an excerpt of her book, read the Dear Muse column and learn about setting up your own muse group.|||106432302517247740|||9/22/2003 02:41:45 PM|||Beth Dargis|||I read an article today that gave a really great idea:When in Doubt, Do Something. you know those times when you just need a little break, so you start a different project. Then you leave that one half-way done for a different project. He made a list of little 5 minute jobs to do that would improve his workspace, like pick one book from the bookshelf to give away and check to see if your pens work. Once he did a few of these he was ready to focus on his project. Wouldn't it be great to go through days and really finish those projects?
At my writer's meeting yesterday we were talking about stress and how fast life seems to be moving these days. Things people wanted to do weren't getting done. We can only do so much. It is our responsibility to narrow our life down to what is important to us and align with our purposes and our values. We also have to say no to what distracts us. What has been distracting you lately from what you want to do?|||106425610537608721|||9/19/2003 07:02:46 AM|||Beth Dargis|||"There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

Lunch with friends, book club, parents and grandparents from out of town visited, my in-laws came to visit with our nephews, swimming with family, a long, long call with my favorite cousin, pampering time at church during the Woman's Expo, taught the first day of Sunday School, visited with my new Mary Kay lady, had a friend over for lunch at my house and the kids have had friends over just about every day.
Though it was fun, I can tell I need a little recharging before I get back out into the social scene. I need some quiet time to journal, read and relax. I plan on doing that tomorrow.
I found this great tool for keeping spam robots from getting your e-mail address off your web site. HiveWare Enkoder Form creates a java script encoding of your page so it looks fine on the page, but in the HTML its all gibberish.
I friend of mine works with these people helping them print their Personal Promise Bibles. It inserts your name, your spouses name, etc. into the scriptures to make the Bible really personal.
Part of Seth Godin's Purple Cow, a marketing book, is online.
If you are a newletter author, who is tired of getting dumped in the Spam Box of people who signed up for your newsletter Lyris has a wonderful Content Checker. It alerts you to words and punctuation that could send you to the dreaded Bulk Mail box.|||106393548664851252|||9/08/2003 06:20:13 PM|||Beth Dargis|||What a fun weekend! Saturday was my son's soccer game. We also did some family cleaning and got a lot of to do's checked off. Sunday we relaxed. At church we had meet the teacher day so I got to meet about 14 of my kindergarteners. After church we had a grandparents day pig roast and picnic at the park. Food, pies (tons of them!), games, hay ride, hymn sing and talking. My in-laws joined us.
Then they stopped by afterwards and we brought out chairs to sit under the trees and talk some more.
We prepared for the week when they left. Once the kids left we sat outside in the chairs to watch our lighted fountain in the dark.
This week in 52 changes is Laughter.
